The Makeshift Project
a socio-anthropological experiment designed as a mode of research to further understand the role of clothing as a form of cultural production
The Makeshift Project was undertaken for the period of one year, from September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2010, during which time a commitment was made to wear self-produced items only. The parameters included clothing, shoes, undergarments, accessories, swimwear, and everything else needed for protection from the elements. This limit-based challenge questioned the freedom associated with choice by taking responsibility for social, political, practical and aesthetic outcomes.
